The Thero Central Air Conditioning Phase Change Cold Storage System installed in this building, which adopts new cold storage materials and an "peak-shifting and valley-filling" intelligent operation mode, has enabled the building's central air conditioning to achieve 17.7% energy savings and a direct 53.1% reduction in electricity bills. It is estimated that this can reduce carbon emissions by 110 tons per year, equivalent to planting 1,600 trees.
The "golden key" to solving the pain points of traditional cold storage lies in the 8℃ microcrystalline composite phase-change material independently developed by Shenzhen Thero New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. This system uses low-price electricity at night to lock cold energy into the phase-change material in advance and then slowly releases it during peak daytime hours. Compared with water-based cold storage, it only occupies one-fifth of the area; compared with ice-based cold storage, it saves another 20% of energy. What's even more remarkable is that the system can be directly connected in parallel to the original central air conditioning water system, providing a one-stop solution of "easy transformation, high return, and strong carbon reduction" for the green upgrading of existing public buildings.
Yang Ruohan, Chairman of Thero New Materials, said that in the past, when people talked about energy storage, they often thought of storing electric energy, but 70% of energy in life is consumed in the form of heat energy. Thero uses a more natural and physical way to control heat energy. The small step that Thero has taken in the Joint Financial Building will also become a big step for Chinese cities on the journey to "carbon neutrality".
Thero's “Phase Change Cold Storage Technology” has now been included in the public catalog of the "Low-Carbon Supermarket" in Futian District, Shenzhen, and has been connected to the AI group control system. Through load forecasting and dynamic strategy optimization, it will push energy-saving efficiency to a new height.
Reporters learned that Thero New Materials, a national high-tech enterprise, focuses on the research and development of high - energy storage temperature - controlled phase - change materials. It has 47 patents (including 9 invention patents). The temperature control range of its core materials covers - 150℃ to + 1000℃, and the service life exceeds 10,000 cycles. The company has taken the lead in formulating 1 national standard and 2 industry standards. Previously, the cold storage phase-change cold storage demonstration project for the expansion (Phase II) of Shenzhen Airport International Cargo Terminal, which adopted another distributed phase-change cold storage technology of Thero, was awarded the Shenzhen 2024 Urban Low-Carbon Scenario Demonstration Base.
